ISIT'07 Student Paper Award

The TPC for ISIT'07 has selected two papers for the student paper award. Papers with a student author as the major contributor and presenter were eligible for this award. In total, 193 of the submissions to ISIT were self-marked as eligible for the student paper award. Of these, 106 were accepted for publication in ISIT and considered in the selection of finalists.

Student Paper Award Finalists

The following papers were selected as the finalists for the student paper award based on the reviews, recommendations by the reviewers and TPC handlers that the paper be considered for the award, and a review of all eligible papers by the TPC chairs. The final winner will be decided from these criteria as well as the quality of the presentation given by the student author at the conference. Congratulations to the following finalists (listed in alphabetical order):

...and the winners were:

Minimum Expected Distortion in Gaussian Layered Broadcast Coding with Successive Refinement
Chris T.K. Ng, Deniz Gunduz, Andrea Goldsmith, and Elza Erkip

Congratulations - well done!

Eligibility

In order for a paper to be considered for the student paper award at ISIT'07, a student had to be the dominant contributor to the paper and had to present the paper. Specifically, the following two criteria had to be met:

  1. The 1st author had to be a registered student at the time of paper submission.
  2. This student author had to present the paper at ISIT'07.

Exceptions to (1) could be made for papers where authors were listed alphabetically but a student was the main contributor to the paper. In this case the paper was eligible only if the student's advisor sent an email to the TPC chairs stating that the student was the main contributor to the paper.

Basis for Judging: The TPC for ISIT'07 selected the student paper among those eligible based on both the paper's technical contribution as well as the quality of its presentation.
